Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini is targeting a different result against Real Madrid after their Super Cup defeat.
Last season’s Europa League winners Atalanta lost 0-2 to UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid in the Super Cup in August.
Gasperini team has changed significantly since their last outing against Real Madrid, with both a squad change and a recent run of nine consecutive wins in all competitions.
“The Super Cup at that time was like the highest point in the history of the club. We weren’t in the best shape because of the situation in the transfer market, but we still played well for a strong hour.”
“Then we brought players in and a lot of them stepped up. I think it’s going to be a different game than it was in August.”
However, Gasperini still regards Real Madrid as favourites to win, not Atalanta.
“No team can call themselves Register ufabet favourites against Real Madrid. We know we are playing a strong team. The current standings are just a temporary thing.”
Atalanta are still doing well on 11 points, but now have Sturm Graz and a very difficult trip to Barcelona.
At the final whistle, the crowd at the Gewiss Stadium gave their players a standing ovation.
“It was an exceptional night, a festival of football and everyone ended the game feeling satisfied they had seen a great match. That is one of our main objectives,” concluded Gasperini.
